RTC Prater Way | Sparks, NV
East Prater Way is one of the oldest corridors in Sparks and was previously the alignment for the Central Pacific Railroad, part of the first transcontinental railway. This rehabilitation project from Howard Drive to Sparks Boulevard included removal and replacement of the roadway structural section, concrete site work improvements (including sidewalk, curb and gutter, driveways, and ADA ramps), correction of drainage deficiencies, and sewer infrastructure replacement. CME provided geotechnical exploration, laboratory testing, and associated geotechnical design recommendations for the 0.8 mile stretch of roadway. Sewer line replacements were to be done at a depth of approximately ten feet, and the bulk of site soils were non-cohesive granular soils at that depth; therefore, maintaining trench stability to prevent sidewall caving was identified to be a challenge during construction. Identifying construction concerns aided in streamlined construction, when CME provided materials testing services and continued geotechnical consultation.
