Founded on innovation and technical expertise, CME’s client-focused approach has been the driving force for growth. In 1978, Marty Crew joined a local engineering firm that evolved to offer a variety of services including quality assurance/quality control, inspection services, and project management. The original firm was acquired in 1997 and in 2009 the group’s senior managers purchased the construction services group in Reno, creating Construction Materials Engineers, Inc. (CME). 15 years later CME is still your trusted Northern Nevada partner, providing technical excellence and proven solutions that are focused on success for our clients and the local community.
Since its modest beginnings in 2009 CME has more than tripled in size from 28 employees to a robust 85 and continues to flourish! Fifteen years later, 11 of the original employees still remain and eight transitioned into retirement from CME. Starting with 30 trucks the fleet has more than doubled to 65 vehicles. And trucks are not the only thing that has more than doubled! CME’s original office space was a mere 8,581 square feet. Today CME maintains an 18,671 square foot office which includes a 6,000 square foot state of the art materials testing laboratory.
For the past 15 years, CME has served as a respected, professional team focused on a strong commitment to provide accurate, reliable and responsive inspection, testing, geotechnical and construction administration services. Beginning with a testing and inspection team of 17 technicians and eight project managers, it has grown exponentially to a team of 59 certified technicians, nine project managers, and an addition of four construction managers. CME has also seen the geotechnical department flourish from just one geotechnical engineer to a team of six that includes two Professional Engineers, two Geologists, two Engineering Interns and a Geological Engineering Intern. CME has also had their hand in contract administration from the start but significantly expanded the team in 2021 to service many more public works entities. To keep up with the growth, the administration team has also grown fivefold from two to ten.
Noteworthy projects that these departments have been involved with include the UNR E.L. Wiegand Fitness Center, UNR Pennington Student Achievement Center, Oddie Boulevard, RTC Lemmon Drive Project, SouthEast Connector, Moana Lane Extension, NDOT I-80 through Lovelock, NDOT Highway 50 & Highway 95 in Fallon, Reno-Tahoe International Airport Ticketing Hall Terminal Refurbish, numerous airside improvements, TMWA Mt. Rose Water Treatment Plant, Reno Stead Water Reclamation Facility 4MGD Expansion Project, South Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility Expansion, Southwest Gas Northwest Lateral, City of Sparks Golden Eagle Regional Park and so many more.
CME’s Leadership, President Marty Crew, Vice President Verdie Legg and Principal Jon Del Santo were all raised in Northern Nevada and value their community. CME has exhibited a commitment to their community through many years of generous donations to the University of Nevada, Reno and local non-profits such as Moms on the Run, Ronald McDonald House, Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada and the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project. These donations total over $300,000 and CME continues to give generously through their Annual Charity Golf Tournament amongst their many other contributions.
CME has developed successful business relationships and lasting friendships that span 15 years and beyond!
